MIGA also covered the Wilken Group for its $300,000 equity investment and $371,963 shareholder loan to Wilken Afsat (Uganda) Limited (WAL) to establish a satellite communications system for data transmission. The investment in WAL is insured for $1 million against the risks of currency transfer, expropriation, and war and civil disturbance.

The project will improve the existing data communications system in Uganda. Data will be transmitted to and from local users, as well as users in Tanzania, through a data transmission hub installed in Kampala. The enterprise will use the same technology as the project in Tanzania.

The project's impact on Uganda's economic development is both direct and indirect. Improved communications will facilitate business investment and increase efficiency. The modern data transmission system will promote transfer of technology to Uganda and provide jobs for about 20 nationals. A training program will be implemented to develop the skills, techniques, and expertise the staff will need to manage and operate the virtual hub and maintain users' remotes.
