MIGA issued $ 10 million of coverage to Newmont Gold Company of the United States and Newmont (Uzbekistan) Limited of Cyprus for their investments in a gold ore-processing facility, Zarafshan-Newmont Joint Venture, at a mine in Uzbekistan. In fiscal 1994, MIGA issued $40 million in coverage to Newmont against the risks of expropriation and war and civil disturbance. The project includes loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as well as from a number of European and U.S. commercial banks under the EBRD's loan program.
