Dakar, October 25, 2007—Yukiko Omura, Executive Vice President of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), one of five entities of the World Bank Group, is set to visit Senegal from October 28-30.

During her visit, Omura will meet with the Prime Minister of Senegal, Cheick Aguibou Soumaré on October 29, and will have a working meeting with the Minister of State, Minister of Economy and Finance, Abdoulaye Diop, and with Minister Aminata Niane, Director General of APIX.

Omura is also expected to meet with the director general of the Société nationale des telecommunications (SONATEL) and with Senegalese and foreign business representatives. She will also visit Les Nouvelles Minoteries Africaines (MNA), a plant that manufactures flower, pasta, animal feed, and poultry.

MIGA’s mandate is to encourage foreign direct investment by offering investors and lenders political risk insurance and by helping emerging economies attract private investment.

Since 2002, MIGA has provided guarantees totaling $19 million in support of two projects in Senegal. The agency has also issued five guarantees totaling $125 to SONATEL in support of its investments for projects in Mali, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau.

Prior to her appointment as MIGA’s Executive Vice President in May 2004, Omura was an economist specializing in emerging markets. She began her career at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington before working in the private banking industry in Tokyo, New York, and London.

Omura was born in Paris and is a Japanese national. She studied in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the University of Boston. In 2002, Omura created the AIDS Prevention Fund, a charitable company based in London.
