Santiago Assalini Joins MIGA as Director of Corporate Risk

Washington, DC, March 12, 2015—The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), the political risk insurance and credit enhancement arm of the World Bank Group, announced the appointment of Santiago Assalini as Director of Corporate Risk, responsible for MIGA’s risk management, reinsurance, investment portfolio and financial reporting functions.

Prior to joining MIGA, Assalini worked for over thirty years in the financial services industry. He joined JP Morgan in Argentina in 1983 and has held positions in investment banking and credit and country risk management in Buenos Aires, London, and New York, advising clients and governments on corporate finance, debt issuance, privatizations, and debt restructuring. Assalini has also worked for Standard Bank of South Africa as Chief Credit Officer for the firm's wholesale operations and as Chief Risk Officer for the Americas. Assalini holds a law degree from the Universidad Católica Argentina and a master of laws (LLM) degree from Columbia Law School.

“I am very pleased to have Santiago on board to lead the teams that ground our financial sustainability,” said Keiko Honda, MIGA’s Executive Vice President and CEO. She continued, “His is a critical role at MIGA, as our strong risk management and financial performance allow us to support investors in challenging contexts—where their ability to create jobs, transfer skills, improve infrastructure, and contribute to economic growth is most needed.”

“I am very pleased to join  MIGA’s management team and to contribute to the effort to promote investment into our developing member countries that improves people’s lives. MIGA’s growth and success in recent years demonstrate the broad recognition of its offering by both investors and host countries alike,” Assalini said.
