New Director of Guarantees Joins MIGA

WASHINGTON, DC, October 16, 2007—The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), a member of the World Bank Group, has named Edith Quintrell Director of Guarantees, effective October 15. Quintrell succeeds Philippe Valahu, who served as Acting Director of Guarantees for two years and recently assumed the position of Managing Director, Structured and Export Finance at Depfa Bank in London.

Quintrell, a US national, is joining MIGA from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) where she has worked since 1991. There she served as Vice President for Insurance and held previous positions as Director of Technical Operations and Regional Manager.  Quintrell has also been active in the Berne Union.

As the head of the Guarantees Department, Quintrell will focus on continuing to develop business in the priority areas of infrastructure, post-conflict countries, frontier markets (high-risk/low-income), South-South investment, and Africa.

Prior to joining OPIC, Quintrell worked at the Pan American Development Foundation, a nongovernmental organization in Washington, DC. She holds a BA in Political Science and Latin American Studies from Princeton University, and an MA in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Quintrell was a Fulbright Scholar at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia from 1985-1986.
