Tunis and Washington, April 3, 2014 – Michel Wormser, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)—the political risk insurance and credit enhancement arm of the World Bank Group—arrives today for a two-day visit to Tunisia. The aim of Wormser’s trip is to identify areas where MIGA can help the country mobilize capital for important infrastructure projects and other job-creating enterprises to meet its development goals. During his visit, Wormser will meet with government ministries, banks, and private enterprises.
MIGA’s political risk insurance offers investors and lenders protection to overcome constraints that may hinder investment.
“MIGA can help create jobs by facilitating private investments in manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure,” said Wormser. He continued, “MIGA has been active in Tunisia and I’m here to underline our continued support.”
In August of 2011, MIGA issued guarantees for the passenger-car ferry TANIT, one of Tunisia’s main transportation links with Europe.
