MIGA Head of Operations Visits Côte d’Ivoire

Washington, DC; Abidjan, February 17, 2015 – Edith Quintrell, the Director of Operations of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)—the political risk insurance and credit enhancement arm of the World Bank Group—will visit Côte d’Ivoire February 17-18. Her visit underscores the Agency’s sustained and significant commitment to the country. In the past three years, MIGA’s investment guarantees have mobilized some $2 billion in investment into Côte d’Ivoire.

In tandem with other parts of the World Bank Group, the Agency’s support has focused on the Ivorian energy sector. MIGA backs the conversion of the Azito Thermal Power Plant from simple to combined cycle—doubling its output without the use of additional gas. The Agency also covers investments and debt financing for the expansion of Foxtrot International’s oil and gas production platform.

MIGA’s guarantees also underpin the Henri Konan Bedié toll bridge in Abidjan, as well as the city’s Azalaï hotel.

“We’re pleased to have played a role in helping Côte d’Ivoire rebuild its infrastructure, especially as the country emerged from civil conflict that deeply impacted the economy,” said Quintrell. “I look forward to meetings with the government and private sector to build on our strong relationships and learn how we can further work together to meet the country’s development goals.”
