MIGA Executive Vice President and CEO Visits Turkey

Washington, Istanbul, September  17, 2014 – Keiko Honda, the Executive Vice President and CEO of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)—the political risk insurance and credit enhancement arm of the World Bank Group—will visit Turkey September 18-24 to underscore the Agency’s commitment to the country.

During her visit Honda will continue MIGA’s dialogue with national and municipal government officials to discuss their key development priorities.

The Agency recently worked with the Izmir municipality to support marine transportation and a new tramway—both part of Izmir’s Transportation Master Plan that promotes mass public transportation in order to reduce congestion and emissions. Similarly, MIGA worked with the municipality of Istanbul where it is providing support for the first underground metro on the Asian side of the city.

Honda will also meet with representatives from the private sector and in particular with Turkish investors looking to expand internationally, especially into Europe and the Middle East and North Africa. MIGA has previously supported Turkish investments in Egypt, Iraq, and Turkmenistan.

“Turkey’s economic strength makes it an important country for both inbound and outbound investment,” said Honda. “While we have been very pleased to support significant infrastructure investments in the country recently, I also want to ensure that Turkish companies are aware of our products as they expand abroad.”
