MIGA is pleased to note its new publication, Investing with Confidence: Understanding Political Risk Management in the 21st Century (Kevin W. Lu, Gero Verheyen, and Srilal M. Perera, editors), is now available electronically.

The book presents the latest thinking on key political risk management issues by leading experts in the fields of international investment, finance, insurance, and law. It provides important and current insights into the evolving world of political risk insurance and foreign direct investment and showcases how the PRI market has developed and grown during the last two decades.  “The last 20 years have seen tremendous growth in both the number and value of projects that have been insured, and a steady and healthy increase in the number of PRI providers in the marketplace,” says Izumi Kobayashi, MIGA’s Executive Vice President in her Foreword to the book. “MIGA, for one, has written over $20 billion in guarantees since the agency was established in 1988, and has worked with and received support from a wide range of private, public, and multilateral insurers.”

Contributors to Investing with Confidence examine key political risk issues, including claims and arbitration, perspectives on pricing from private, public and multilateral providers, and explore new frontiers in sovereign wealth funds and Islamic finance. The volume begins with a look back to the founding of the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and MIGA and the respective visions for both of these institutions. It continues with a review of new developments in global finance and risk management, including Islamic finance and sovereign wealth funds, and provides an investor perspective of what drives the decision-making process on procuring political risk insurance.  Contributors consider methodologies of pricing from the private, public, and multilateral perspectives, and examine key legal questions.

Investing with Confidence: Understanding Political Risk Management in the 21st Century is the fifth book in a series based on the MIGA–Georgetown University Symposium on International Political Risk Management. The most recent symposium, held in December 2008, brought together almost 200 senior practitioners from the PRI industry, including investors, insurers, brokers, lenders, academics, and members of the legal community.
