Washington; Jakarta, October 21, 2013—Keiko Honda, Executive Vice President of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)—the political risk insurance and credit enhancement arm of the World Bank Group—is traveling to Jakarta as part of her first visit to Asia in her official capacity. She arrives in the country on October 22nd for talks with government officials, investors, and lenders to showcase how MIGA can support foreign direct investment (FDI) that creates jobs, builds infrastructure, provides basic services, and fosters growth.
MIGA has supported many projects in Indonesia since the Agency’s inception. MIGA is currently insuring two large-scale Indonesian projects: the expansion of telecommunications services by PT Natrindo Telepon Seluler (known by the brand Axis) and the feasibility study for the PT Weda Bay nickel project. MIGA’s current gross exposure in Indonesia is $524 million.
In addition, MIGA has established a strong partnership with the Indonesian Investment Guarantee Fund, both through knowledge sharing and discussions on deploying the Agency’s guarantee capacity to contribute to IIGF's priority projects.
“Indonesia continues to post significant economic growth and FDI has been rising at record amounts in recent years, in diverse sectors,’ noted Honda. “As the government looks to harness this important source of long-term capital for its development plans, I want to ensure that awareness of how MIGA can mitigate risk and enhance credit is high.”
